I am a PhD student in the Wheatley lab at Queen’s University Belfast. I am investigating the spread of antibiotic resistance in mobile genetic elements and in agricultural soil across Northern Ireland. My research focuses on understanding what types of genes commonly co-occur with antibiotic resistance genes and why. I’m particularly interested in investigating the diversity of antibiotic resistance genes in the soil microbiome and finding novel genes in this underexplored area.
