Kuangyi (Charles) Wei is a PhD student in Prof. Kate Baker’s group at the University of Cambridge. He studied Natural Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Cambridge. During his studies, his research explores the genetic mechanisms underpinning microbial adaptation, specifically through projects such as developing GWAS pipelines for pathogenic bacteria (Part III) and investigating the genetic responses of gut microbes to environmental stressors (Part II). He has accumulated diverse laboratory and computational skills from various projects. He is interested in public health solutions via bioinformatics and microbial genomics. He is now actively working on the genomic epidemiology of pathogenic Enterobacterales, especially on genomic surveillance and the evolution of antimicrobial resistance. Through his research, Charles aims to contribute robust methodological tools that support public health surveillance and improve the interpretation of large-scale genomic data for understanding pathogen evolution, transmission, and resistance.
