Biography

Abid Hussain is a Consultant Microbiologist based at the University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. He is the Clinical Services Director of the UKHSA Birmingham Public Health Laboratory with responsibility for the clinical, diagnostic, and public health functions. Dr Hussain also has a role within the senior management team of the University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust as an Associate Medical Director. As the chair of the Birmingham Antibiotic Advisory Group, which is a pan-Birmingham Group bringing together secondary care stakeholders and ICB  partners, assurance around antimicrobial stewardship and clinical governance is delivered to the local health systems.  In 2024, he was awarded the role of Honorary Clinical Associate Professor with at the University of Birmingham, delivering teaching and collaborating with academic colleagues.
